SMALLEY INSTITUTE FELLOWSHIPS: EXPECTED SCHEDULE

With the addition of the Carl and Lillian Illig Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Nanotechnology, which is expected to fund its first award in Spring 2014, the Smalley Institute has three separate fellowships for supporting and promoting research leaders in nanoscale science and technology.

While the actual timing of awards is somewhat subject to variations in returns on investment of each endowment, the Institute is now working to make the timing more transparent to Rice faculty and potential fellowship applicants. Please see the schedule below for our current estimate of when each fellowship will fund a new appointment.

Given that the J. Evans Attwell/Welch Fellowship is usually capable of carrying two appointments at the same time, we are moving to an annual solicitation for those positions, timed as follows. The Illig and the Peter and Ruth Nicholas fellowships are on approximately two-year cycles, with occasional exceptions wherein more time is required to "recharge" the fund.
